Guyana South America

Guyana is a former British colony located between Suriname and Venezuela and is South America’s only English-speaking country. With a population of 739,903 (July 2012 est.), Guyana is a stable democratic republic with a well-established legal system based on English Law and a modern Mining Act that was passed in 1989. The country has benefitted from positive economic growth almost every year over the past decade. Guyana’'s stable mining regime supports and encourages the international exploration and development of its resources.

The country has a long history of gold production with this being the country’s largest export, however the area is one of the least known and least explored gold terrains in the world. It lies beneath the Guiana Shield, which contains a world class gold belt covering around 200,000 km². Geologically, the Guiana Shield is believed to be an extension of the West African Shield containing a gold belt with over 100 million ounces identified to date. The Board of Minexco Minerals believes that projects in Guyana have the ability to deliver potential upside and near-term results.
